After Typhoon Yagi, a bridge collapsed in North Vietnam and 10 cars and 2 scooters rolled into the Red River, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phok said.

Mr. Ho said that at least 03 people have been rescued so far and 13 people are missing after the collapse of the Phong Chau bridge in Phu Tho province. A 375m section of the bridge is still standing and the army has been instructed to construct a pontoon bridge as soon as possible.

Yagi, Asia’s strongest typhoon this year, killed more than 60 people after making landfall in Vietnam on Saturday, bringing winds of up to 203 km/h (126 mph). During these days, the storm wreaked havoc on North Vietnam. Landslides and flash floods killed at least 44 victims, the country’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said.

Floodwaters reached three meters in Yen Bai province on Monday, forcing 2,400 families to higher ground as the water level rose, local news agencies reported. Search and rescue officials on Sunday found 27 people adrift at sea after a dozen fishermen were reported missing.

Nearly 50,000 people have been evacuated from Vietnam’s coastal cities and authorities have issued a stay-at-home warning. Schools in 12 northern provinces, including Hanoi, were temporarily closed.

Scientists say that due to climate change, typhoons and hurricanes are becoming stronger and making landfall more often.
