Israel launched an attack on Beirut for the second time since a ceasefire commenced last month, targeting the head of an Iranian militia, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

The strike occurred around 14:00 local time and followed a series of Israeli military operations against Hezbollah infrastructure in southern Lebanon.

Previous attacks had been spared in Beirut at the behest of US President Donald Trump.

Thick smoke rose over residential areas in Dahieh, a Hezbollah stronghold, as residents sought safety amid the destruction.

IDF reports indicate the targeted individual was Ali al-Husni, associated with Hezbollah’s missile operations.

This attack came in response to drone strikes from Hezbollah that had threatened Israeli troops and civilians.

The IDF had urged residents to evacuate north of the Zahrani River, warning of “extreme force.”

Reports of casualties indicated at least 11 deaths from earlier strikes in Tyre and nearby areas, with shocking visual evidence of destruction flooding social media.

The ongoing conflict has displaced many, leading to overcrowded shelters, particularly in northern Lebanese territories.

In contrast, Saida, relatively unscathed, experienced an unusual buzz of activity despite warnings and evacuation orders affecting about 300 towns and villages, representing 14% of Lebanon’s area.

Hanaa Jamaa, a resident, was devastated to learn her rental property was struck overnight, resulting in fatalities among both displaced individuals and local residents.

The civilian living in Hanaa’s rented apartment for three years expressed a desire for peace, distancing herself from both Hezbollah and Israel.

Israeli officials claim Hezbollah’s actions are breaching a ceasefire agreement, while Lebanese officials accuse Israel of violations.

The conflict complicates negotiations involving the US and Israel against Iran, which demands Lebanon’s inclusion in any agreement.

The war escalated on March 2 after Hezbollah’s retaliation for an Israeli strike.

Recent reports estimate over 3,224 deaths in Lebanon since the conflict’s onset, contrasting with 27 Israeli casualties.
