Justin Timberlake has been arrested for driving under the influence

Singer Justin Timberlake was arrested in New York for driving under the influence, local authorities said.
The pop star was arrested and formally charged Tuesday morning, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. Timberlake, 43, was in Sag Harbor, an affluent village in the Hamptons, a popular summer destination for celebrities on Long Island. He was arrested and released without bail about nine hours after his arrest, police said.
Timberlake was behind the wheel of a gray Florida-registered BMW when he was pulled over shortly after 12:15 a.m. near Madison Street and Middle Line Highway, police said, after initially driving through a stop sign and failing to keep to the right side of the road. Timberlake was arrested shortly after midnight after he was dragged from the vehicle.
But after police spoke to Timberlake, they said it was clear the driver was in no shape to drive, according to the complaint written by Sag Harbor Village Police Officer Michael Atkinson.
It was established that the defendant was driving while intoxicated, his eyes were bloodshot and glassy, his breath emitted a strong odor of alcohol, he was unable to concentrate, his speech was slurred, and the defendant was driving. Unstable, he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” Atkinson wrote.
“I had a martini and I followed my friends home,” Timberlake allegedly told the officer who pulled him over.
He also denied being tested for impairment, allegedly telling police, “No, I’m not going to do a chemical test.”
Timberlake has been touring the US to promote his sixth album, Everyth I Thought It Was, and is set to debut in Poland next week.
A former member of the popular ’90s boy band NSYNC, Timberlake is an actor, songwriter and one of the world’s best-selling music artists.
He is scheduled to appear in court in Sag Harbor on July 26.
