Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has expressed his government’s support for the removal of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the line of royal succession in a letter to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

This follows Andrew’s recent legal troubles, including his arrest for misconduct in public office, which he denies.

The UK government is contemplating legislation to effect this removal, necessitating support from the 14 Commonwealth nations where King Charles III is head of state, including Australia.

Albanese emphasized the seriousness of the allegations against Andrew, highlighting the need for a thorough investigation.

The last removal from succession occurred in 1936 with Edward VIII.

Currently, UK officials are cautious about further comments during the ongoing investigation, while some political figures argue against legislating his removal until the police conclude their inquiries.

Andrew was arrested at Sandringham and has denied any wrongdoing related to his connections with Jeffrey Epstein.
