HBO releases first trailer for new “Harry Potter” series

HBO has officially released a trailer for its upcoming Harry Potter TV series, which will reimagine J.K. Rowling’s seven novels, beginning with “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” this Christmas.

The trailer opens with a depiction of young Harry (played by Dominic McLaughlin) facing mistreatment from his aunt, Petunia Dursley (Bel Powley), before he learns about his acceptance into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The trailer showcases Harry’s transition into the magical world, meeting significant characters like Rubeus Hagrid (Nick Frost), and highlights key moments such as his encounter with Ron Weasley (Alastair Stout) and Hermione Granger (Arabella Stanton) on the Hogwarts Express.

The cast features various replacements for the original character portrayals, including Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.

Essiedu has recently faced racist threats following his casting, prompting HBO chairman Casey Bloys to implement a robust security team for the cast.

Alongside Bloys, the series will collaborate with showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, ensuring a dedicated approach to the adaptation amidst the fervent fan base.
